Introduction:

Climate change is the most pressing issue of our lifetime. With government and big business failing to take action, it’s hard not to feel a sense of hopelessness.

As a songwriter, the only way I know how to access these feelings is through music. I wanted to give the same outlet to my fans. That’s why we launched the #EvergreenProject –to raise awareness about climate change while mobilizing everyday individuals to take action.

The Evergreen Manuscript:

Last Fall, we launched the Evergreen Manuscript, a living document where individuals can submit their personal thoughts and feelings about the climate crisis. The response so far has been overwhelming. We've received over 600 submissions, each of them detailing the intimate, emotional, and complex feelings individuals have about climate change.

Manuscript

We’ve created a movement – now it’s time to make our voices heard. We will be sending the manuscript to government and corporate leaders across the globe. Our message to them is simple: climate change requires urgent action now. It’s not too late to add a message of your own.

Evergreen Mural Paint-In:

To coincide with the release of Evergreen, my team hosted a five-hour mural paint-in in downtown Toronto, live streamed to audiences across the world. With the help of my friend (and all-star painter) Milkbox, I sought to animate the intimate testimonies submitted to the Evergreen Manuscript. Joined by fans, and supported by environmental organizations across Canada, the initiative brought together thousands of individuals around the importance of climate change action.

Every Action Counts:

The tools to halt climate change are in our hands today. Sustainable living and eco-friendly lifestyles are becoming more accessible. Whether it’s reducing your meat consumption, using more sustainable forms of transportation, or opting for reusable items instead of single-use plastics, every action counts.

If you are able to do so, I encourage you to donate your time (or if possible, money!) to the thousands of organizations doing important work around climate change action. Some of the fantastic organizations supporting the Evergreen Project include: Sierra Club Foundation, Greenpeace Canada, and Environmental Defence, and WE Movement.

Are you already taking action to combat climate change? Tell me about it on social media, using the hashtag #EvergreenProject!

Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh

There's cups in the lake, and heat from the beam
Rising seas, and a world on fire
Sun shines, so we draw the blinds
Someone chuckles from the back of a fire

And I'm too late to go outside
There's money in our pocket, but it sure ain't mine
Some days I'm doing fine
Most I'm losing my mind

And I can't take it
This ever-changing spinning world
But maybe I can make it
If we plant seeds in the dirt

I think I need a change of scene
I think I need to change my life
Thank God our love is evergreen
The only thing that never
The only thing that never
Says a word it doesn't mean
Makes me feel like I'm alive
Thank God our love is evergreen
The only thing that never
The only thing that never dies

Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh

There's a flood in the south, and a kid so high
He can't remember how to ride his bike
Moon shines on a silver dime
But I picked it up, so I guess it's mine

Painted grass, and smog in the sky
But can I just kiss that teardrop in your eye?
Some days you're doing fine
Most you're losing your mind

I think I need a change of scene
I think I need to change my life
Thank God our love is evergreen
The only thing that never
The only thing that never
Says a word it doesn't mean
Makes me feel like I'm alive
Thank God our love is evergreen
The only thing that never
The only thing that never dies
